Standard Mail Up in 2005
For the first time in history, standard mail will exceed first class mail volumes. While total mail volume is expected to grow by about 1.4 billon pieces, forecasts indicate first class mail to decline by 2.1 billion pieces. Standard mail is expected to grow by nearly 3.8 billion pieces.

Clock Ticks on Postal Reform
Some mailers are still optimistic about postal reform legislation passing this session. That's because Congress has delayed its October 8 adjournment and could be in session as late as Christmas.
The Senate and House committees that oversee the USPS are determined to pass reform. However, it is rumored that President Bush opposes the bill because it does not provide enough reform to justify budget costs.
