4 Simple Steps to 'Green Mail'
Fall 2004

Today's business world is filled with white papers and blue line proofs - but green mail? As quality and availability of environmentally safe paper and print products has increased, so has the number of businesses realizing the value of mailing green. In the summer edition of Mail Matters, we announced Consolidated's Direct Recycling Program and our commitment to recycling. As promised, here are more ways to mail green.
Start with a good paper. Gone are the days of flimsy, discolored recycled paper. Today, recycled paper comes in nearly every weight and color. Postcard and catalog mailers alike can rest easy knowing there are many environmentally friendly papers available.
Don't stop with the paper. More and more printers are offering soy-based alternatives to the harmful chemicals found in most inks. Soy-based inks are compatible with most paper selections. Ask your printer for details.
Clean your mailing list. A current and clean list will not only help save printing and mailing costs, but will also help reduce waste. Delete old or bad addresses from your database and scrub the list for duplicate records. This will provide a more accurate print count and help save unnecessary waste. A clean list also helps boost ROI and response rates.
Use the logo. Two important things happen when a company places the recycling logo on mail pieces. Your company's reputation and recycling both get a boost. Today's consumer not only wants a good product at a good price, they also want to know they are spending their money with a good company. Placing a recycling logo on mailings communicates corporate values and reminds people to recycle.
